Shape of Dreams Now ON PS5:Everything in The Starless Path Update

Shape of Dreams is available on PS5 right now, shadow-dropped on September 17, 2026 alongside the game’s biggest content update to date. If you came here to find out what it costs, whether it supports crossplay with your PC friends, and what’s actually new in The Starless Path, all three answers are below no trailer-recap padding required.

The short version: developer Lizard Smoothie and publisher NEOWIZ released the action roguelite for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and the Microsoft Store at a launch-discount price of $19.99 / £15.99 / €19.99 / ¥2,288. It first launched on Steam in September 2025 and has since pulled in more than 1.5 million players. A year later, the console version arrives with everything that came after.

Shape of Dreams PS5 release date and price

The game is out today. No pre-order window, no staggered rollout the console launch was announced during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 Showcase and went live the same day.

  • Release date: September 17, 2026 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2)
  • Launch price: $19.99 in the US that’s a 20% discount off the $24.99 base price, and the PC version is currently 30% off on Steam
  • Launch bonus: console buyers receive the Red Flash Lacerta costume
  • Subscription: the game has also joined Xbox Game Pass not PS Plus, so PS5 players are buying it outright

At twenty dollars for a roguelite with a year of post-launch content already folded in, this is one of the easier value propositions on the PlayStation Store this month.

What is Shape of Dreams? The 60-second version

Shape of Dreams is an action roguelite that blends hack-and-slash combat, MOBA-inspired team play and strategic decision-making. Think top-down arena brawling with an ability bar rather than a weapon wheel.

You play as one of nine Travelers and descend into the Rapids a dream world that reshapes itself every time you enter. Runs are fast, loud and built around a single question: what can you make out of what the run gave you?

That’s the hook that separates it from the Hades-likes it gets compared to. The build system isn’t a list of stat bumps. It’s a rewrite engine.

Builds explained: Memories, Essences and the Constellation

This is the part most launch coverage skips, and it’s the part that determines whether you’ll bounce off the game in two hours or sink eighty into it.

Memories and Essences

Memories are the core abilities you equip. Essences slot into those Memories and fundamentally rewrite how the ability works.

A practical example straight from the developer: take a single-target attack Memory and attach an Essence that chains it to nearby enemies, or one that cuts its cooldown every time you land a hit, and it becomes something else entirely an ability capable of clearing a whole room.

With more than 200 Memories and Essences in the pool, no two runs play the same. The design goal is explicitly not a single optimal build it’s improvisation under constraint, which is why the game rewards players who read their drops instead of memorizing a tier list.

Traveler Memory and Identity Memory

Every Traveler starts with two unique traits at the centre of their build: the Traveler Memory (an active skill) and the Identity Memory (a passive). Before each run you pick one of two options in each slot so you’re choosing your starting point, not just stacking abilities on top of a fixed base.

The Constellation

Each Traveler has a Constellation that fills in permanently; progress carries over when a run ends rather than being wiped. This is the meta-progression layer, and The Starless Path adds new Stars to slot into it.

Four-player co-op and crossplay on PS5

You can play the entire game solo or as a four-player online party. Co-op here isn’t a damage multiplier builds interlock. One player freezes enemies while a teammate pushes extra damage into frozen targets, or someone pulls a crowd into a single point so the rest of the party can sweep it.

Crucially, nobody is locked into a fixed role. There’s no healer slot to fill or tank to beg for in chat.

Crossplay is live at launch. PS5 lobbies are fully unified with PC and other consoles, so the Steam friends who’ve been playing since 2025 can party up with you on day one. Crossplay is supported across all platforms with multiplayer for up to four players.

Everything new in The Starless Path update

The Starless Path is the first-anniversary update and the largest the team has made. Every improvement and piece of content built over the past year with Steam players is baked into the PS5 version from the start meaning console players aren’t starting on a year-old build.

New Traveler: Cetus

Cetus joins as a ranged frost tank, locking down the battlefield with ice while keeping shields on himself and everyone nearby. He can shift between roles depending on how you build him, from ranged damage dealer to heavier frontline fighter, bringing the roster to nine Travelers.

If your group keeps dying on bad map layouts, start here.

The Way of Stars

A new system that weaves each Traveler’s story together like a constellation. Travelers who reach the depths of the Rapids unlock hidden episodes and illustrations, and face a new ending alongside the toughest final boss in the game.

Existing world bosses also gain secondary attack patterns, behaving more craftily and more lethally at higher difficulties. Veterans who’d solved the old encounters have new problems.

Fallen Stars and Faded Memories

Your Identity Memory can now be swapped for one of six Universal Identity Memories instead of being restricted to your Traveler’s own set, which opens up cross-character build paths that simply weren’t possible before.

Is Shape of Dreams worth buying on PS5?

Buy it if you want a roguelite where the build system is the game, you have friends to play with, or you enjoy ability-driven combat more than weapon-driven combat.

Skip it if you prefer slow, deliberate combat this one is fast and busy, and four-player runs get visually loud.

Lizard Smoothie CEO Eunseop Shim noted that a console launch was the biggest request from the community since the PC release, which is why it was paired with the anniversary update. That’s a reasonable signal about where the team’s attention is going next.

The bottom line

Shape of Dreams lands on PS5 at $19.99 with a year of refinement already applied, a ninth Traveler, a new ending, crossplay with a 1.5-million-player PC base, and four-player co-op that actually asks something of your build choices.
