Dune: Awakening Finally Lets You Play Solo — And It’s Coming to PS5 September 22

Arrakis is about to feel a lot bigger. Funcom just confirmed everything console players have been waiting for — and then some. PlayStation

On September 22, 2026, Dune: Awakening arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the version showing up on console is the most expansive one Funcom has ever shipped. A full single-player mode. The dramatic finale of the Book One storyline. Over a year of post-launch improvements baked in from day one. PC players get all of it on the same day, included in the base game.

This isn’t just a port. It’s a second launch — and arguably the definitive one.

The Feature Everyone Asked For: Full Single-Player Mode

Single-player is easily one of the most requested features in the game since its original launch. And Funcom didn’t cut corners delivering it.

The entire game — including the open world, story, and Deep Desert — can now be played entirely in single-player with three preset difficulty levels and full manual customization of survival settings. That means you can tweak XP gain, enemy difficulty, resource harvesting speeds, and even disable the sandworm entirely if you want a more relaxed experience on Arrakis.

The Deep Desert is fully available with all of its content and challenges, but the map never resets and your buildings are never wiped. The Coriolis Storm remains as a weather event but is less destructive.

The trickiest part to translate was the endgame. In multiplayer, the late game revolves around factions competing for control of the Landsraad. In single-player, the game simulates artificial rival factions competing for political control of the Landsraad — so the endgame still feels alive and contested, even without real players on the server.

PvP is fully optional in multiplayer too. The entire game, including the Deep Desert and the Landsraad faction conflict, can now be played in full PvE.

The Best Version of the Game — On Day One

Console players aren’t getting a year-old port. This console debut integrates over fifteen major updates, four separate downloadable content packs, and gameplay overhauls developed during the title’s first year on PC.

Here’s a taste of what’s been added since PC launch:

The Overland Map is now filled with new locations including Smuggler’s Run, Blushing Caverns, The Old Quarry, Tsimpo, and Wind Pass. Six more Imperial Testing Stations have been added, each offering unique boss fights with escalating difficulty levels. Two new weapon classes have been introduced: the Pyrocket (an incendiary gel launcher) and Dual Blades.

And on September 22, the final Act of Book One arrives, bringing the complete cinematic storyline to a dramatic conclusion — allowing players to experience the entire main story from start to end for the first time.

Optimized for PS5 and PS5 Pro

Dune: Awakening targets upscaled 4K resolution at 60 frames per second in Performance Mode on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The base console relies on frame generation to maintain this frame rate, whereas the PS5 Pro delivers native 60fps. Quality Mode locks the frame rate at 30fps on both hardware configurations.

The game’s complex survival menus and mechanics have been fully overhauled to suit console controllers. This isn’t a PC interface shoehorned onto a DualSense — Funcom rebuilt the UI experience specifically for console players.

A Physical Edition — With an Actual Disc

In a week where the gaming industry declared war on physical media, Funcom just quietly did the right thing.

The PlayStation 5 physical edition of Dune: Awakening will be available on September 22. Funcom is working with Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe for retail distribution in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, while Solutions 2 GO handles North and South America. A physical publisher for Japan is still to be announced, with release expected in October.

For a limited time, physical pre-orders include the Terrarium of Muad’Dib base decoration and a global color swatch.

Dune: Awakening is also available on Xbox Game Pass starting September 22, and supports Xbox Play Anywhere with cross-play between Xbox and Windows PC Store.

Editions and Pricing

The PlayStation Store lists a Standard Edition at $49.99, a Deluxe Edition at $69.99, and an Ultimate Edition at $89.99. The Deluxe Edition includes head start early access.

With the Dune film universe also having its third installment hitting theatres on December 18, 2026, the physical edition doubles as the perfect holiday gift for any Dune fan in your life.

Arrakis has been waiting. September 22 is when you answer.
